I have lived in Hong Kong on and off since I was 9 years old but I have only recently discovered the covered hawker fabric market at Sham Shui Po.

Its a magical place, with fabric which I assume are the left- overs from factory orders piled high to the corrugated roof. I left with some treasures, and made my way home by bus and foot down the busy Nathan road and on to my favourite method of transportation the Star Ferry.

It was packed with tourists enjoying the sun setting over the harbour and I sipped my soy latte and breathed in the happy and excited atmosphere .

  1. Hi, I really love the image above, and was wondering if you would give me permission to use it on my blog? The post I am writing concerns a maths investigation to calculate the total mass and length of fabric in the SSP market, and the picture gives a lovely impression of how difficult this might be. Thanks!
